The Old Man and The Sea

joan_miro.jpg

The Catalan painter and artist, Joan Miró (1893-1983) lived in Mallorca from the advanced age of 63 until his death at age 90.

Mallorca was the birthplace of Miró’s wife, Pilar Juncosa, as well as that of his mother and maternal grandparents. Joan and Pilar both chose Son Abrines in Cala Major, today a Palma suburb, to live and to work.

From Son Abrines, Miró would have seen the nearby sea which inspired him in many of his artistic creations. In 1959, Miró acquired the adjoining estate of Son Boter, a neighboring estate where he will have sat on this bench contemplating life as an old man living by the sea.

The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: March 12th, 2008. The time was 17:07:00.
